LAHORE: Nawaz Sharif’s daughter, Maryam Safdar, on Saturday claimed that her father was betrayed by those he loved the most.
Talking to media, she claimed that her father is ‘honest, truthful, and innocent’.
“God will deal with those who conspired against my father,” she said, adding that Nawaz was wrongfully removed from office for not receiving income from his son’s company.
Maryam, who is heading her mother Kulsoom Nawaz’s election campaign for NA-120, said that she was heartened to see the enthusiasm of workers of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
According to PML-N media cell, Kulsoom was recently diagnosed with cancer in London.
Requesting party workers to pray for the quick recovery of her mother, she added, “We must all work together for the country’s betterment.”
The NA-120 seat fell vacant after the Supreme Court disqualified Nawaz for his involvement in the Panama Papers case.
Separately, Nawaz chaired a consultative meeting at his Jati Umra palace to discuss matters pertaining to the next course of action.
The session was attended by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, Law Minister Zahid Hamid and Railways Minister Saad Rafique.
According to sources, among the matters discussed was the Sharifs decision to file a review petition against the SC verdict.
The sacked premier’s children, Hasan, Hussain and Maryam and son-in-law Capt (r) Safdar submitted two review pleas in the SC on Friday, requesting that the July 28 verdict, and its implementation, be set aside till a decision on their review petitions.
The strategy regarding the election campaign for NA-120 by-poll was also discussed in the session, the sources said.
Meanwhile, Railways Minister Saad Rafique said Maryam Safdar was monitoring the election campaign of the PML-N in NA-120.
Talking to the media at Jati Umra, Raiwind, he said Imran Khan was being used by someone.
“He is a non-serious person, just a player is trying to become a politician,” he added.
The minister said the PML-N was criticising some illegal points of the verdict under which Nawaz Sharif had been disqualified, adding that no contempt of court had been done by the PML-N.
He said Nawaz never uttered a word against any honourable judge of the SC.
He said when any leader talked about conspiracy, it was not an indication towards any institution.
He said the PML-N had differences with the verdict in Panama case and the party leadership discussed it in some forums but it did not mean to insult any court.
He said court had never banned speeches of Nawaz.
To a question, he said statements of PPP leader Asif Zardari against the PML-N would be beneficial for them.
He said Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif had also discussed some matters of foreign affairs as he was leaving for China. To another question, he said statement of the US president could not be taken non-serious.
