LAHORE: Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, reportedly, has refused to join China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) unless Afghanistan is given transit access to Pakistan’s Wagah and Attari border for trade with India.
He was Addressing a gathering at the Vivekananda International Foundation in New Delhi on Wednesday as a part of his tour to India.
Ghani said that Kabul will restrict Pakistan’s access to central Asia if it is not given access to India through the CPEC project.
He termed the South Asia strategy announced by the Trump administration as a ‘game changer’ for the region.
He also welcomed India’s increased role in Afghanistan as stated in the US policy for the region.
“Our collaboration with India is very open. We are delighted with the four helicopters. More Mi 35 helicopters are welcome,” Ghani said.
These assertions came a week after the representatives from Afghanistan, China, Pakistan and the United States met in Oman to discuss the revival of peace talks with Taliban.
