ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday requested the accountability court to formally declare Hasan and Hussain Nawaz, sons of Nawaz Sharif, as proclaimed offenders.
The NAB submitted in the court its report, stating that the legal process of declaring Hasan and Hussain Nawaz as proclaimed offenders had been duly completed.
When court judge Muhammad Bashir resumed the hearing, NAB prosecution team requested that the hearing be suspended for sometime as its prosecutor was on the way from Lahore to Islamabad.
The court then suspended the proceedings for some time. When the court resumed the hearing after a break, NAB team submitted its report about the Hasan and Hussain Nawaz.
On NAB’s request, the court recorded the statements of its (NAB’s) three investigators, including Imran Dogar, in the Avenfiled properties reference, Muhammad Kamran in the Flagship Investment reference and Mehboob Alam in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference. In its report the NAB stated that both the accused did not appear even a single time despite repeated orders of the court, despite the fact that three graft references had been filed against them.
The report stated that four bank accounts of Hussain Nawaz had so far been detected and these accounts had a balance of 3,992 dollars, 4,272 Euros, 207 pounds and Rs 382,381, respectively.
It said both the accused had no property in the areas falling in the jurisdiction of Lahore Development Authority and Defence Housing Authority, whereas the Bahria Town and the deputy commissioner, Lahore had been asked for details.
With regard to the legal process for declaring the accused as proclaimed offenders, the court was informed that NAB had sent notices through the Foreign Office to paste on the Avenfield apartments of the Sharif family in London.
Meanwhile, the court adjourned the hearing for today (Wednesday). The court will also resume hearing on the three graft references against Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam and son-in-law Capt (r) Safdar today (Wednesday).
The 30-days deadline earlier given to Hasan and Hussain Nawaz to ensure their appearance before the court to face three graft references filed against them expired on November 11.
