LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday urged the people to stand up against the Sharif brothers, who he held responsible for the Model Town tragedy. Addressing the protest rally jointly organised by the opposition parties on The Mall, Imran said that there was no place in the world where police could open straight fire at innocent citizens protesting for their rights, but the police killed shot dead innocent people in Punjab. He said that 11 children were killed in Kasur but the government failed to provide justice to their heirs. Imran Khan announced to support Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri for his campaign to seek justice for the victims of the Model Town tragedy. “The Model Town incident was a deliberate act,” Imran said. “I watched on the television how the police opened fire on unarmed [PAT] protesters.” Imran went on to add that both the Sharif brothers were fascists and didn’t have any interest in democracy. “The victims of Model Town tragedy are still far from receiving justice.” According to him, incidents of rape and murder in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were being falsely compared. “Unlike the Punjab government that didn’t take any action when the Kasur scandal emerged, KP ensured swift action to address the problem and coordinate with the victims.”
