The flour crisis has hit most parts of the Tharparkar district after the food department stopped the supply of grains to millers three months ago.
The public is forced to buy the flour at exorbitant rates since millers pleaded that they have been forced to buy the wheat grains from the open markets from other districts. Food Inspector Kinshasa Lohona, when contacted, told this reporter that they were not being allowed to supply the required grains to millers since they were still waiting for the rate list from the high-ups. He said that there was enough stock in their warehouses in Mithi, Nagarparkar, Islamkot, Chhachhro towns.
He said, “We’ve yet to be informed by the high-ups about the rates of per maund to millers this season after procuring enough through the decade’s process in the desert district” he added. and said they had written to their high-ups a number of the times warning them that wheat bags might be rotten or attacked by weevils.
